Infernal Sky – Alien Allies

These Doom books are really burning through my brain, in a good way of course!

What can I say about the third one? Well it was easy to follow at first and it started off with the characters all in Hawaii enjoying some well-deserved R&R until demons break loose in the labs.

My favourite chapter was when Dr. Ackerman was explaining to Jill the official names of the demons which are their real names in the games. (finally!) Ah if only they stuck with them for the rest of the book.

Eventually, the fight must be taken back to Phobos and this is where things get really confusing when Fly, Arlene, Albert, and Hidalgo entered the gate. These new aliens are nothing like I’ve seen in the games.

I wasn’t a fan of the side love story happening between Albert and Arlene. It felt forced which is quite common in sci-fi stories, much to my chagrin. But it ends as if she might not see him again.

Maybe it was just me but I didn’t see a lot of humour in this one compared to the last two and that was unfortunate but there was still enough gore to keep me reading. I like to imagine that the creature I saw was what the book’s cover portrayed.

Jill on the other hand was left behind, so I wonder about what future awaits her the most. Maybe the fourth book will reveal it. But other than that I don’t have much to say other than this book was decent but it was eventually hard for me to follow.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
