The Sinister Urge – Iron Head in the House

It’s time to share my thoughts on another Rob Zombie album! This I’m hoping brings back the readers who loved my last one. I decided to start with another one that I got not long after my first that I’d say might be another

The Sinister Urge was planned for quite some time after I enjoyed listening to Demon Speeding and as I write this I have to say I am going to see The Munsters when it is out. I’ve never seen any of his films and didn’t know where to start so there’s that and I’m trying not to wreck my own self-esteem over the fact that he’s on tour right now and it’s only in the US.

Anyway, back to the core of this. This album was quite good and there were undiscovered songs within that I enjoyed more than I thought so let’s dive right into it.

Sinner’s Inc.

Yep, one thing I love about these albums is they always have a cinematic intro, and since this is Rob, I expect something that sounds right out of a horror movie with the sound of someone saying you’re all sinners before it ends with a warning that there is no way to stop what is coming, I love that.

Demon Speeding

And now we jump right into it! This is the first song that I liked on this album as I said earlier. It’s something I want to listen to driving on the freeway. It’s got an awesome riff intro and with the chanting, it could make a great song to hear live. What’s funny is that my hairdresser is also a Rob Zombie fan and she joked that I probably shouldn’t play this song or Dragula when driving because it might prompt me to start speeding while I’m still learning how to drive!

No matter, this is an awesome song that deserves more love and to is cranked up whenever possible.

Dead Girl Superstar

Much faster song than the last, like it’s trying to be the faster version of Living Dead Girl. I don’t love it but hey it has a guitar solo which is nice too, not a lot of Rob’s songs have that. That’s what makes it stand out, maybe it’ll grow on me over time. That’s what I like about writing these, I might discover another song to enjoy.

Never Gonna Stop (The Red, Red Kroovy)

Does this count as a ballad? It sounds very acoustic when it begins oh wait no it kicks up at the chorus before dropping again. I don’t imagine Rob doing something like this, but he seems to like experimenting. Can’t say I’m a fan of this one to be honest.

Iron Head

Somehow I just knew that I was going to love this one at first listen. It’s got a sound to it that’s less upbeat but still epic in its own way. Not to mention it’s also got Ozzy Osbourne in it which makes it even better! Hearing Rob and Ozzy together is one of the best things I’ve ever heard on this album so yeah it’s definitely one to love immediately.

I thought that this was going to be similar to Never Gonna Stop, but there’s something about it that makes it sounds like something Lordi has released with the key it’s at and the backing vocals.

The chorus is pretty good, though not great enough to stay in my head or belt it out. Solid song, not perfect, but I don’t think it’s something I will listen to a lot though.

Feel So Numb

I didn’t think I was going to like this song but I do, it’s like one of those with a dark tone but still catchy like something that has a party aspect to it as well. I think I saw the music video as well but wasn’t digging it. But on its own, it’s great with a thumping buildup toward the chorus and it actually makes me want to listen to it more.

Transylvanian Transmissions, Pt. 1

This short little interlude is nothing new to me. I’ve heard similar from Hellbilly Deluxe. I guess you can’t have a Rob Zombie album without this right? It’s nothing special but it’s creepy as usual.

Bring Her Down (To Crippletown)

Damn, I forgot that this one existed, I just remember I did like it when I first listened. Often what I do is listen to an album once to process it and then listen again for writing these reviews. Listening to this just makes me want to jump and headbang around the room or try to imitate Rob on stage. It’s just one of those things you know, there is no real explanation for it.

It sounds better than I thought and sometimes there are just songs out there that are just good because they are.

Scum of the Earth

It’s funny because there’s a band with the same name and I like one song by them. But this, is much more intense with better vocals! Can you imagine the crowd going “Yeah!” when he points to them if he was performing this one live? I can even if I’m not a massive fan of this song. It’s pretty decent though, I do like the beat but that’s pretty much it.

House of 1000 Corpses

Oh man, now this is definitely the scariest song on the entire album! I love the beat and melody it has even if the guitar isn’t prominent in it, it’s so dark and creepy and I’m not surprised because Rob has directed film of the same name.

My friend keeps suggesting we watch it together on Discord and I do want to see it but something tells me there will be more gore in it than I can handle! Nonetheless, I love this song for eerie theme all over. It’s like watching a horror movie in the dark alone given how cinematic it is where it’s more than just the core of the song itself. I wish there was one final chorus towards the end, but the heartbeat also gave me goosebumps too before the news report started again because I feel the best part ended too soon, but oh well, I still love it.

Unholy 3

To conclude this album this outro starts with what could be just static or part of a recording of how it used to be done in the past before it kicks into an actual melody at the halfway mark. Why do I get a feeling this is another connection to the movie that shares the name with its predecessor, what is this trying to tell me? Either way, it’s a solid outro.

So to sum it up it’s a pretty good album, not perfect as there were some tracks that were meh for me, but it’s got some songs that are great enough too for me to be generous with my final rating.
