After You – The Paramedic and The Daughter

That’s another book down, and it’s time to review it. This one is the sequel to Me Before You, so without any further ado,

The last book ended with Louisa in Paris and it seemed like she was ready to follow her dreams, but in reality now she’s in London working another low-paying job and renting a cheap apartment.

The book starts off difficult where she hasn’t come very far and is still grieving Will, to a point where she is injured, moves back home, and has to attend a group with other people going through the same thing.

But then I saw things get interesting when two new people enter her life, the paramedic who saved her: Sam, sometimes referred to as Ambulance Sam, and Lily who apparently is the daughter of Will, conceived by someone he slept with before his accident obviously.

I had to try really hard not to picture Sam too similar to Nathan, but I definitely imagined him to be far better looking than Patrick, so as they grew closer, I could already picture the intensity between them at certain occasions. I just knew he was going to be the new man for her and I loved that the more time she spent with him, the more she started to become her old self again wearing her colorful clothes.

Lily on the other hand I didn’t like at first, she was a mess but her story got more interesting to me when Lou kicked her out and I realized what she had got herself into. Needless to say, she becomes a better person by the end of the book and my favorite part is when she and Lou ride along with Sam in the ambulance to one of their calls.

Lou’s dad also annoyed me due to him protesting about being quite misogynistic when Lou’s mom just wants to start asserting herself and not being the housewife all the time, and it would be nice if Lou and Lily didn’t get all grimace over the fact that the former’s nephew is a big Transformers fan!

The book ended with a real shock with one of those typical parts where Lou doesn’t know what she wants and finally realizes she wants to be with Sam when she’s on the brink of losing him. I know it’s a cliche, but it still was a well-done one in my opinion.

The author also did a good job keeping it secretive about Lou’s potential new job until the very end, which I will not say, but I’m glad the book at least ended with her finally moving forward.

I hope the third book lives up to this.
