The Witcher S1 E5 – Bottled Appetites

In this particular episode, timelines are starting to merge which makes it easier to follow now for anyone who was confused back then. This is one I noticed right away that was based off of The Last Wish. I have not read the books yet, but it’s on my to-do list and I already have a basic understanding how the story goes.

Geralt and Yennefer (1256)

Right before these two meet, Geralt is searching for a Djinn in hopes of it helping him with his current insomnia while Yennefer is in a nearby town taking up work as a local mage. A confrontation Tissaia shows how desperate she is to get her fertility back. I mean, all of the other sorceresses are infertile and they don’t seem to give a damn about it while Yen is obsessed with wanting to bear children again. I wanted to ask what good will that do? Are you trying to show that you can be a better mother than your own mother was?

Ah, question of my life. These two finally meet when Geralt takes Jaskier to her to help with his condition, but she uses him to get the Djinn to possess her it seems, in order to get her fertility back.

Geralt reveals himself to be the one with the wishes and uses his last one to save her before the Djinn overtakes her completely. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until the next episode to learn what his last wish was. Then we get some steamy sex between them for the first time. I’ll also never forget that awkward bath scene either.

Ciri (1263)

I don’t have a picture this time, but the hunt for Ciri is on! A doppler joins the hunt and takes the form of Mousesack before killing him, by the orders of Eithne. I hate seeing characters be slowly stabbed to death like that, this one wasn’t as disturbing as what I saw in Saving Private Ryan, but still, I hate that.

The imposter eventually finds Ciri in the forest and she agrees to leave with him, not knowing his true identity. I think she would be safer in the forest but this is now when her story gets interesting.

This episode should have been called The Last Wish instead but maybe to the writers that would be too obvious. Still good though.
