The Music Tastes Tag

Oh look! Another music tag, this is getting fun for me! I always thought these tag things on WordPress culture were only related to giving awards or certain fandoms. But, music can be a part of it too!

This will go in much more detail of what type of music I like, especially if you’re new to my blog and my monthly music posts are different every time, so let’s get started!

Favorite Genre of Music

Power metal! It is a subgenre of the heavy metal genre and looking at this picture, I can see several bands that I listen to from that subgenre: Kamelot, Sabaton, Helloween, Hammerfall, well I listen to a little bit of Rhapsody of Fire, now if you add Powerwolf, Orden Ogan, and DragonForce then this picture looks better! (Like, why isn’t DragonForce in this anyway? They are a very well-known power metal band, sheesh…)

This is my favourite genre of music because the sound is like traditional heavy metal and speed, but it contains an uplifting sound, lighter vocals that you can sing to it, strong choruses, melodic riffs/solos. The songs are often anthem-like, you know, the kind of song that makes you want to belt out the chorus and it sticks in your head like Sabaton’s Carolus Rex. Now THAT is an anthem-like song if you get what I mean.

So you see, metal isn’t just a genre with screaming, or growling distorted vocals and really fast sound or whatever, you want that then go listen to death or black metal like Immortal or Kreator. I have some friends and followers on social media who enjoy that stuff but it’s never been for me.

I personally prefer, you could say, “softer” metal with more melodies and vocals that clearer so that I can sing along and powerful, hard, or symphonic sound.

Least Favorite Genre of Music

I’m not one to hate on any music genre, (not anymore) but I really cannot get into rap music. I can’t understand what people like about it. When I was in high school, everyone around me was playing rap music on their phones or MP3 players and there was just something about it that I did not like. You could say that I just got tired of it really quickly since everyone in school was listening to it except me.

That is why I never liked when it was combined with something I love like, a rap song about Transformers.

Don’t get me wrong, I think a lot of rap artists have talent and I even like the odd Eminem or Lil Wayne song, but could I ever listen to rap on a regular basis? Definitely not.

What’s funny is that I don’t mind country music at all though.

Genre of Music People Assume You Enjoy

I don’t wear band shirts 24/7 outside of work anymore so if you caught me wearing something geeky or plain, you might assume I just listen to pop or electric if you know that I enjoy playing video games.

I prefer pop songs that have more structure to the chorus and aren’t just three words followed by a dance instrumental.

I do like some pop music depending on the artist and the song, but electric music of any kind is not my cup of tea.

Favorite Artists/Groups

Seriously, this question is meant for bloggers who are very specific about who their favorite artist or band is.

Right now my top 5 favorite bands are:

Lordi, KISS, Nightwish, Sabaton, and Orden Ogan

Lady Gaga, Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, and Madonna

I’m not a fan of Justin Bieber, but I do like one song by him called As Long As You Love Me

I’m not into Drake either, but I like the song Find Your Love

The Song You Most Recently Listened to

Probably Rain on Me by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, it was on the radio when I was on my way home. Not a big fan of it though.
