Love Your Backlog – Can I Clear It?

Well well, another trend sweeping my niche!

I usually get to these at my own pace and my own time rather than when everyone else does it. Seeing Kim’s post and a few others about their backlogs, how about I join the fun?

Backlogs remind me of Steam’s Spring Cleaning event where they encourage you to clear a backlog and what I loved about Kim’s post was her encouragement given for us to see backlogs in a positive light. The truth is I also didn’t think I would be able to participate at all because my Steam library sits at only 64 games right now, but I’m sure I still can come up with something. It won’t be much though.

A game you’re eager to play but haven’t started

My backlog is actually not that large now that I look at it. But there is a game called Flower that I would like to try.

It looks like such a beautiful relaxing game where you let the wind take you to discover new places. I don’t even know what its purpose is. I just think it’ll be a lovely experience. It probably isn’t a very long game but I might still enjoy it regardless. Hell, I picked up Refunct, and it was a very short game, but it was fun and relaxing too. I haven’t touched it yet because I was too engrossed in Slime Rancher and Stardew Valley, but now that I’m running out of things to do on those two, now might be a good time to pick it up.

Another is the Middle-Earth games, they look really good, especially the first one. I bought Shadow of Mordor on sale but my old computer couldn’t run it, so it just sat there while I saved up for a new desktop. It’s on my to-play list sometime after the series I’m currently playing.

Game you’ve started several times but never finished

KOTOR 1 and 2. I don’t know why, I just can’t do it.

The first game is one thing being it has this un-skippable mini game where you take control of the ship’s turret and the keyboard controls are AWFUL. I tried to install a mod that allowed me to bypass it, but it didn’t work. So I pretty much gave up due to frustration, it collects dust now and I have so many hours on it, but it’s never been completed.

The second game was combat-related and I felt like I just rage-quit.

The most recent addition to your library?

Well, it’s actually two adds: Call of Cthulhu and Darksiders Genesis. I bought them during the 2019 Steam Holiday sale but it’ll be some time before I even play them since I’m only starting the 2nd DS game and CoC will have to be at least after I finish the DS series. If I’m playing a story-rich game that takes up more than 10GB of space, I like to do one at a time.

I’ve got a new interest in Lovecraftian horror and I have read several of his stories already, so this’ll be interesting. The other I heard has a different approach than the other three games, but I will still give it a chance.

The game which has spent the most time in your backlog

Probably Portal 2, Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen, and Halo: Spartan Strike

I don’t know what possessed me to buy the first, like was it influence from my friends and their nonstop chatter about it back in the day? Probably.

The second, I can’t even remember since it’s been there for so long, maybe I saw it years ago and thought it looked interesting so I bought it, but then I got sidetracked.

The last, well I played Spartan Assault that has a similar gameplay and it just didn’t cut it for me so I never bothered giving that one a try.

The original version of the first Darksiders will likely suffer the same fate of going by untouched since I played and completed its remastered counterpart and found it to be the exact experience I was looking for; if I don’t count the times War suddenly fell off the map in the middle of a fight twice in my play-through. I also chose it over the original because I thought it would run with less bugs and crashes on my computer (it was apparently made for PC where the original wasn’t). I had intended to buy only the remaster, but it gave me the original with it. I don’t think the original could deliver the same experience I am looking for in terms of graphics and gameplay so yeah, there it goes.

Whenever there’s games sitting in my backlog for more than a year and I don’t think I will ever play them, I just hide them from my library, tragic really but sometimes it needs to be done if the interest I have in them is no longer present, or I’ve played a remastered version and am too attached to it to try the original that may not give me the same memorable experience I got from the former.

The person responsible for adding the most entries to your backlog

Me. Duh.

When I first started PC gaming, I would buy random games that caught my eye and then I wouldn’t play them right away because I got sidetracked with other hobbies or games I was currently playing.

Some of those games I eventually picked up, while others just sat there without being played at all. Now, I’m even more selective with what I buy so I’m not always getting a massive backlog that needs to be cleared!

That’s my backlog in a nutshell right now. Not as impressive compared to some of the other posts I’ve read but a backlog is a backlog right?
