Thunder I Rock with Death and Mary – Music of October 2019

I had to work on Halloween so the only thing I could do is wear my neon pink NYX lip gloss and colourful eyeshadow along with my Frollo rings!

Welcome to the life of working in healthcare.

I’m going to get started now.

5. Helloween – Waiting for the Thunder

I didn’t realize that this song was actually good until I listened to it again for review purposes. That’s the beauty of listening to a music on vinyl or CD. You discover something good that you missed!

This one has such a powerful melody and lyrics that listening to it makes me realize how tough it can be to live with anxiety. I anticipate the worst and find myself waiting for some kind of apocalypse to occur, even though in the end it never does.

A few deep breaths can help calm me down, but I can’t just ignore these thoughts. Addressing them is how I let them go, and this song helps me understand that there’s the stage of extreme worry but it’s only a ghost story I tell myself about the future.

4. Nico & Vinz – Am I Wrong?

This is one of my guilty pleasure songs I hear on the radio a lot. I just really like the way it sounds and I don’t know why.

All I recall is turning it up once when I was making dinner one weekend. Some songs I just like without any reason and this is one of them. It’s just a nice catchy tune.

3. Avril Lavigne – Rock N Roll

Avril has been making a comeback in my life recently. It all started at the beginning of 2019 and now I’m listening to her again. I first heard this song when I saw on Facebook a timeline of all her music videos.

This one has a great riff and beat, but at the same time it also feels bittersweet because it makes me think that this was the last song she did where the electric guitar was the main instrument she played. Not saying her piano-focused songs are bad, but it’s her rock-sound and style that made me love her as a preteen.

I love how the music video has a Mad Max FR theme to it with the open space, motor gangs, and Avril is like a soldier caught in the middle and then fights a half-bear/half-shark creature. Best part is, she’s too badass to wear a skimpy outfit and use weapons that come from her body, (Ariana take note, you might learn something) because you know how much I hate it when the heroine does those things, but I don’t hate skimpy outfits as much as I hate missiles that are fired from the breasts. Well done Avril for keeping it real and not about sex appeal.

2. Xandria – Death to the Holy

It’s weird cause when I looked for this song on YouTube to post it here, the song is at a completely different key than it is on the album. But I like the way it sounds on the album better because it just suits it more. I really need to go back to studying music theory so I know what I’m talking about when I make an analysis about a song I like.

I like to think of myself as a Tal-Vasoth fighting demons on the Storm Coast. I’ve got gray skin, long white hair, and big horns and I’m wearing either Antaam-Saar or Shokra-Taar armor. I fight with either a spear or axe killing the demons until I run into the Iron Bull and his Chargers. We fight alongside each other and you could say how that’s we met and fell in love. I still don’t have a name yet for my Adaar Inquisitor and I’m going to need some mods installed to give her better hair before I play that game again.

This definitely a symphonic metal song that goes unnoticed in my opinion. It’s just one of those epic battle-cry like songs that you need to listen at high volume.

1. GWAR – Bloody Mary

Why not close this off with some brutal stuff with blood, gore and scumdogs since it’s Halloween? This is one of my favourite songs from this album; however I don’t drink Bloody Mary. I tried it once and it wasn’t for me, but still.

This is one song that I love to listen to while I walk for some reason, maybe it just has a certain tempo to it. It’s definitely one of my overall favourite GWAR songs though and it’s too bad I didn’t get to hear it live in 2014. They came back earlier this week I think but I didn’t go, I think GWAR was just one of those once-in-a-lifetime bands for me, but I still should really listen to them more.

Alright that’s it for now. I really need to catch up on my sleep. Weird eh? Halloween is supposed to be a time where people stay up late, eat candy, and watch horror flicks after the kids are done their trick-or-treating, but I really need to sleep!
