My Top 4 Christmas Songs – Music of December 2017

This month is a little different. Normally I like to save these posts for the very end of the month, but it’s tricky with the number of writing demands I face as 2017 nears its end. I would love to write another life lessons posts, there’s the Dragon Age DLC’s and I would prefer to write each of them ASAP after they’re completed, plus a few rants.

So, instead of posting songs I’ve been listening to over the course of the month, instead I’m going to do a Christmas special instead. Exciting eh? Normally I try to do five, but I couldn’t come up with that many, so this time it’s only four. These songs are not like the typical ones you’re likely to hear the most such as Jingle Bells, and they weren’t easy to pick! They’re a lot more uncommon and you may or may not hear them on the radio, so let’s get to it!

5. Faith Hill – Where Are You Christmas

Starting this off with this beautiful song from How The Grinch Stole Christmas that has been my favourite Christmas movie for years. Taylor Momsen also sings it in the movie too, God she was so cute back then and now look at her! This is the original version that is equally as beautiful sounding, and it was written by Mariah Carey. Lots of singers write for others, sometimes before they get reach stardom themselves and I can imagine Mariah was still climbing that ladder when she wrote this. (in fact she has a signature Christmas song of her own that she sings!) But, this song is beautiful and I feel my heart growing in size every time I listen to it. I hope the same is happening for the Grinch.

3.  Paul McCartney – Wonderful Christmas Time 

I’m pretty sure there are different versions of this song, but this version by Paul is my favourite. I first heard it in the 1998 Rudolph movie when it was played as Santa’s sleigh was about to take off and Rudolph is among all the elves watching as his father is one of the reindeers pulling it: Blitzen. So it’s like I automatically think of that scene first. The melody is unique too and it just sounds the most enchanting compared to the versions that other artists have performed.

2. Trans-Siberian Orchestra – Wizards in Winter

A great instrumental with a touch of some electric guitar. This band is like symphonic progressive rock, and this song comes from one of their Christmas themed albums. The first time I heard it, I loved it instantly; I was then picturing all these children running down the stairs to open their presents on Christmas day, and then spending hours playing with their toys. Now that I’m an adult, I don’t know what to picture when I listen to this; maybe colourful lights all around town or a party of some sort? Oh well, I also feel like this can be listened to at any time of the year and in the past, I’ve been guilty of listening to it in the summer!

1. Meagan Moore and Matthew Hall – When Christmas Comes To Town

Definitely my number one. This is the prettiest Christmas song in my opinion, and I can’t listen to it without crying and singing along. My mom and I would always sing it together whenever we watched The Polar Express. It has a beautiful melody and is all about believing in Christmas spirit, no matter how old we get. If I could listen to only one Christmas song every year for the rest of my life, it would be this one just for its melody and moral. There’s not much else I can say in regards to it, other than it’s a beautiful masterpiece.
